About KOPI
- Name Origin:
- Kopi is the Malay word for coffee. It originally started as a simple codename for the project but, as development went on, the name stuck.
- Short description:
- KOPI is a cosy co-op café simulator where you brew, cook, and serve in a series of charming worlds.
- Long description:
- KOPI is a charmingly chaotic café simulator where you run tiny kitchens, prepare drinks and food, and try your best to keep customers happy. Whether you’re brewing coffee, frying up food, or cleaning the occasional disaster, the goal is simple: serve, survive, and have fun. Play solo or grab a friend for online or local co-op and enjoy a cosy mix of laughter, light-hearted stress, and perfectly timed orders… or total kitchen panic.
- Features:
- Play solo or with friends in local or online co-op (maximum 2 players).
- Cook a variety of drinks & food—from coffee and tea to burgers and steaks.
- Experience diverse café locations, each with unique layouts, flow, challenges, and ambience.
- Manage the entire café: brew, fry, clean, serve, and (try to) keep everything running smoothly.
- Enjoy a playful visual style that turns every café into a cosy miniature world.
- Choose your pace: play casually for laughs or chase that perfect rating.
- In co-op, expect to accidentally steal each other’s ingredients, get in the way, and completely disrupt each other’s flow.
- Customers have their personality, they lose their temper, throw tantrums, toss items, or spill drinks if left waiting too long or served the wrong order.
What we like about KOPI
We love how every KOPI session feels different, especially when two players with completely different play styles collide. One player might be calm and methodical, the other a chaotic whirlwind under pressure. It’s in that tension where the best moments happen—when someone accidentally steals a cup from their teammate, completely breaking their flow, or when the coffee machine starts rattling ominously while the fries threaten to catch fire. And don’t think that similar play styles lead to harmony, you’ll still bump into each other, forget things, and absolutely refuse to fix each other’s mistakes.
The adrenaline rush of serving an order just before time runs out never gets old. Nor does the customer drama—whether they’re shouting, throwing things because their coffee is late, or knocking over a drink when they get the wrong one, leaving you to clean up the mess.
We’re especially proud of the level designs. We made small, quirky cafés where space is tight and teamwork matters. Paired with simple controls and a game loop that balances cosy with chaos, KOPI always finds a way to surprise us with new, unexpected moments of humour.
About the Studio (Dream on a Stick)
Dream on a Stick is an independent game studio based in Manchester, founded in 2021 by two friends—one from the vibrant streets of Malaysia and the other from the historic charm of the Czech Republic. United by a deep friendship and a shared passion for games, the studio represents a fusion of cultures, creativity, and playful vision.
Our Story – How KOPI came to life
We’re two friends—Andrew from Malaysia and Jan from the Czech Republic—both coffee lovers who share a deep passion for games and the laughter they create. We’ve known each other for more than a decade after having worked together, and remained close friends ever since.
During the pandemic, we spent countless hours playing Overcooked with friends, and it quickly became clear how much joy comes from the mix of cosy teamwork and absolute chaos. That experience sparked an idea: What if we could create a game that captures those same unpredictable, hilarious moments, but through the lens of running a tiny café? And so, KOPI was born.
Despite being engineers with no background in game development, visual design, or 3D art, we decided to dive headfirst into learning everything from scratch. Everything you see in KOPI was built by just the two of us. We did all the modelling and drawing, took rest in the somewhat familiar world of engineering; all was fuelled by lots of coffee, plenty of late nights, and more than a few moments of trial and error.
From the very start, we knew we wanted KOPI to feel both cosy and chaotic. The art is calm, warm, and cute; but the gameplay is designed to descend into delightful madness the moment players start collaborating… or colliding.
It became clear we were onto something special when we shared a very early version of KOPI with friends. Seeing them laugh, stomp their feet, panic, and scramble—often in playful chaos—was when we realised that KOPI was the game we were meant to make.
Early Access & Beyond
KOPI will launch in Early Access because we believe games like this thrive when shaped together with the community. From day one, players will be able to enjoy four fully playable cafés, each with its own layout, flow, and challenges:
- A cosy coffee stall in the park, serving customers in an open-air setting
- A home kitchen café, brewing and cooking through your front window
- A cabin café on a snowy mountain, where cold weather adds to the chaos
- A diner with a professional kitchen, designed for fast-paced teamwork
Each café features four distinct levels based on the time of day: morning, noon, evening, and night. As the day progresses, you’ll see changes not only in ambience but also in customer expectations, tools, ingredients, and recipes. This structure keeps the game experience fresh, offering a variety of tasks, rhythms, and challenges within every café.
During Early Access, our focus will be on refining the gameplay, polishing the player experience, and adding new content—all shaped by community feedback.
Looking ahead to the full release, we plan to introduce at least two brand-new café maps inspired by our cultural roots:
- A Malaysian-themed café, celebrating vibrant food, drinks, and local café culture
- A Czech-themed café inspired by the charm and traditions of Jan’s home country
We’re also developing an exciting new co-op feature called Maître d’ Mode, where players take on different roles with separate perspectives. One player manages the front of the café and the other runs the kitchen. Success in this mode will rely entirely on communication, coordination, and a bit of frantic teamwork.
Our content roadmap includes a mix of free updates and paid DLC after the full release, featuring new café locations, additional recipes, mechanics, and potentially more modes.
Beyond PC, KOPI plays well on the Steam Deck, and we’re currently on track for a Xbox release, with plans to also bring the game to PlayStation and Nintendo Switch (or its successor).
